Aloe Vera with Ceramic Pot Holder

Dieffenbachia are native to the New World Tropics from Mexico and the West Indies south to Argentina. Today there are many cultivated varieties and cultivars bred especially as house plants, of which Camilla is one. A superb house plant with striking leaves which have a beautiful mix of green, white and yellow colours. Tolerant of low light conditions and one of the plants suggested as an air cleaner. Easy to grow. Keep in a warm location, preferably not below 10c (50F) with good light but avoiding strong direct sunlight. Keep moist and do not forget to feed by the addition of a controlled release fertilser once a year, or regular liquid feed from spring to autumn. So often the poor half dead looking house plant just needs a regular feed! Remove any dead leaves and re-pot as the plant grows bigger. Diffenbachia were named by Heinrich Wilhelm Schott, director of the Botanical Gardens in Vienna, to honor his head gardener Joseph Dieffenbach (1796–1863). The common name Dumbcane does at first seem a little odd, however it refers to the fact the plant (and some other common house plants) contain crystals called raphides, which can cause a temporary inability to speak if ingested.

Aloe vera is a very well know succulent plant. An evergreen perennial, it is native to the Arabian Peninsula, but grows wild in tropical, semi tropical, and arid climates around the world. It is widely cultivated for agricultural and medicinal uses, however here we offer it as an attractive, durable and resilient house plant. Bold, upright, blue grey, succlent leaves are produced in ever increasing numbers. Cutting off the odd one now and again for treatment purposes won't hurt the plant! Keep in a warm location, preferably not below 16c (60F) with good light, but avoiding strong direct sunlight. Keep only just moist and do not allow to sit in water. Do not forget to feed by the addition of a controlled release fertilser once a year, or regular liquid feed from spring to autumn. So often the poor half dead looking house plant just needs a regular feed! Remove any dead leaves and re-pot as the plant grows bigger using a good quality multi purpose compost, or a specialist house plant compost to which 20% by volume of horticultural grit has been added and well mixed in, to help improve drainage. Add one of our beautiful hand made ceramic pot holders to complete your indoor style.
