Clematis are a well know and very widely planted species of vigorous climber that are widely distributed around the world. There are many forms and hybrids in cultivation, almost all grown for their amazing flowers. In general Clematis like to be planted in full sun but with shaded roots. A fertile moist well drained soil will give best results but in truth they are seldom very fussy!  Clematis Rhapsody is a robust, RHS Award winning variety and one of the most popular of this type of Clematis. A very profuse flowerer, it produces abundant, large single, strong purple flowers the colour of which intensifies as the flowers age and a central boss of contrasting yellow stamens . Flowers are produced over a long period from June to September. This Clematis is in group 3 for pruning. After the first summer flowers have finished remove the dead heads. Can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in the garden or can easily be grown in a pot or container. Requires a frame work of some description to twine around. If it becomes to large it can easily be cut back after the spring flowers. When growing in a pot or other container. Use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade and become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 5-6 month applied in late spring.
