Echinops bannaticus Albus

Echinops bannaticus Albus - Globe Thistle - 9 cm
Availability: In stock
Echinops bannaticus are native to much of south eastern Europe. Much admired and planted by gardeners for generations. Albus is an excellent architectural plant with single unbranched, silvery white stems bearing deeply cut silvery green foliage and golf ball size, striking white, round flower heads that are attractive to butterflies and bees. The foliage looks spiky but it is all for show as it is soft to touch and makes an excellent cut flower. Easy to grow in a full sun or semi shade location and thrives in almost any well drained soil, doing particularly well in poor soils.  Looks great as an accent or back of border plant. Almost never needs staking! Can be planted in a pot or other container. Use a good quality compost and ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmocote pro 5-6 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year
