Fuchsia x hybrida Sunray

Fuchsia x hybrida Sunray (Syn. Tom West) - Hardy Fuchsia - 9 cm Pot
Availability: In stock

Fuchsias are one of the best known of all garden plants. Introduced mainly from South America, there are over 100 species with goodness knows how many varieties and cultivars. Many of the summer bedding varieties are not hardy. Sunray (Syn. Tom West) is an excellent, striking variety, hardy and very easy to grow in moist fertile soil and a location with some protection from hot mid summer sun. It has variegated cream, green and red foliage, flowers are lipstick pink with a purple corolla and are produced from spring right through to late autumn. A welcome addition to any garden either in the border, as a patio and in pots and containers. Use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade, become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost. I would recommend not allowing pots and container to freeze through in winter. In very harsh winters the top of the plant can be forced back to ground level but the plants should sprout back to life as soon as spring arrives!
