Buddleja davidii are native west and central China and Japan and were introduced to the Uk around 1890. They are now perhaps one of the best known and loved of all garden shrubs, as well as having naturalised in just about every crack and crevis available across the Uk! Buddleja davidii White Profusion is an outstanding, rather more compact variety and one of the best white flowered Buddleja. Introduced around 1945 it was awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit. A medium semi evergreen shrub, a vigorous grower and great survivor, almost regardless of the conditions and of course it will attract as many butterflies as you have in your area! Very easy to grow, will produce a mass of beautiful and very fragrant white flowers in long panicles, from July to October. To achieve this long flowering period, with these and other Buddlejas, it is important to prune out dead heads. You should also prune hard each spring soon after new growth begins if you wish to restrict size and to encourage maximum flowering. This plant can be used in a mixed planting, as a central specimen plant or in a container. If planting in a pot or other container. Use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade and become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost.
