Hemerocallis are native to Asia and central Europe. They are grown in gardens across the world and for good reason, the sheer impact these plants create is irresistible to many gardeners. To emphasise this enormous popularity it is fair to say they are probably one of the most bred of all garden plants, with over 80,000 cultivars currently registered (2016) and many more no doubt in the making. As both the Latin and the common name suggests, each flower last for one day, however many of the single, trumpet shaped flowers are produced in a season. Hemerocallis Autumn Red has abundant lovely large velvety, red fragrant flowers, adorned with bright yellow throats. The long clear stem make these good for cutting. Easy to grow in most locations, however for best result deep, fertile, moist soil is preferred. Excellent in a mixed planting, or in groups and can easily be grown in a pot or other container. Use a good quality compost and ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmocote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year.
