Hydrangea macrophylla Sabrina

Hydrangea macrophylla Sabrina - 12 cm Pot
Availability: In stock

Hydrangea macrophylla sub group Hortenisa (mopheads). Perhaps one of the best known garden plants. Originally from Japan these robust and reliable plants produce a truly amazing display in summer and autumn. This stunning variety was bred by D. VanDerSpek of the Sidaco BV in Holland in 2002. It has white petals with red edge, dark red new growth and a more compact growth, so better suited to smaller gardens and containers. Large attractive dark green leaves with a distinct red flush in spring and autumn and masses of large mophead shaped flowers of beautiful white edged red/pink in alkaline soil or lilac blue in acid soil. If you have an alkaline soil treatment with Hydrangea bluing agent will change the flower colour. Very easy to grow, it can be grown in the garden or in a pot or container. In containers use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade, become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 12-14 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost. A vigorous grower that will need pruning. After flowering prune back to close to the old wood. If the plant becomes too large a more drastic pruning can be undertaken! For more information please message us.
