Hydrangea macrophylla are perhaps one of the best known garden plants. Originally from Japan these robust and reliable plants produce a truly stunning display in summer and autumn. Hydrangea Peppermint is a new variety bred in Japan. Peppermint is one of a new generation of Hydrangeas that flower on both the old and new wood, thereby extending the flowering period. In addition it is a very compact variety so ideal for the small garden or patio. The flowers of this very special Hydrangea are truly lovely. Gently rounded flower heads of candystriped pink and white in an alkaline or neutral soil or blueish and white stripped in an acid soil or if you add a Hydrangea blueing agent. They form a beautiful colour display in your garden borders or patio. They remain decorative even when they have finished flowering. Accentuating the showy blooms are the bold shiny bright green leaves. Very easy to grow, it can be grown in the garden or in a pot or container. In containers use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade, become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost. For more information please message us.
