Liatris spicata are a rhizomatous perennial, closely related to Aster. They are native to the pairies of the eastern United States and have been firm favourites in our gardens for well over a 100 years. Floristan Violett is an improved version. Tall, impressive spikes of fluffy bright violet flowers are produced in mid summer. The flowers are attractive to butterflies and make excellent cut flowers. Drought resistant with abundant strap like foilage. Easy to grow in most moist, well drained locations, will tolerate porr soil quite well. Excellent in a mixed planting, or in groups. Can easily be grown in a pot or other container. Use a good quality compost. Feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year.
