Lonicera caerulea Uspiech - Honey Berry - 9 cm Pot
Availability: In stock

Lonicera caerulea are native to northern and central Europe, north Asia and Japan. Culitvated for centuries as a fruit bearing plant, they are now ranked among the "Super foods". A stiff, compact, deciduous shrub, they produce yellowish white flowers in late winter, followed by elongated rich blue fruit with an attractive bloom. The fruits are high in antoxidants and vitamin C with a sweet, tangy flavour with no trace of astringency. Particularly good eaten fresh and freeze well. They taste similar to Blueberries. Lonicera are easier to grow than Blueberries. Variety Uspiech is a selected variety renown for its fruit production and exceptional hardiness. Honey berries are self fertile but more abundant crops are achieved when two different varieties are planted together. See variety Morena. Grows well in full sun or partial shade in almost any soil.  Can be used in a large pot or other container. Use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade and become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soils based compost.
