Oxalis deppei Iron Cross is native to Mexico. A Clump forming tuberous species with four leaf clover like leaves with a dark brown centre. In summer it produces masses of brick pink single flowers. A very popular container plant. The leaves and flowers are edible and have a sharp lemon flavour, however please be aware that the oxalic acid in the plant can interfere with the absorption of certain nutrients in the body, especially calcium, so too much can be harmful! As my mother used to say, "All things in moderation." Likes a well drained soil in full sun, or in a container, which can be bought inside as this plant requires some winter protection. In a pot or other container, use a good quality compost. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year.
